Film

The Swedish film industry is a successful business with a long row of internationally known film stars, directors and titles. Who has not heard of Hollywood icons like Greta Garbo and Ingrid Bergman, or the director Ingemar Bergman? Among the famous film stars of today, you find several Swedish actors and producers working on the international scene.

In Sweden, films are not dubbed – instead, they are subtitled in Swedish. This allows non-Swedish speaking people to enjoy the latest releases of international film at any theatre in the city - and in Stockholm there are many!

Some student unions and students' associations organise film nights at their respective campuses at a reduced price. The Swedish Film Institute has a film club for classic and alternative films that shows two films a day at a reduced price. Since it also shows films that have not previously been screened in Sweden, you might be able to find a film in your own language, even without Swedish subtitling.
