Stockholms Stads Bostadsförmedling, the City of Stockholm housing service, allocates rental flats in the city of Stockholm and in the outskirts of the Stockholm area. The service allocates regular leases and a limited number of short-term leases. It does not offer subletting or exchange arrangements.
The allocation of the housing service flats is based on waiting times in an open and fair system. It usually takes a waiting time of one year or more to receive a lease, but some flats are available without the usual waiting time requirements. Those flats are offered at Bostadssnabben. The longer you queue, the more flats become available for you to choose amongst.
You must be at least 18 years of age and have a Swedish civic registration number or coordination number to be able to register for the queue. Your current place of living is of no importance. The housing queue is subject to an annual fee of SEK 275.
Plan for your future
It is recommended that students and persons who have recently moved to Stockholm register with the housing service as quickly as possible. This you will increase you chances of receiving a lease during your student years.
How it works
It is up to you to register which vacant flats you are interested. Vacant flats are announced on the housing service website and via telephone customer services. After you have had the opportunity to view the flat, the person with the longest queuing time receives the lease.
Shorter waiting times
